Five For Friday: Rock Songs Sung By Chicks

The least edifying regular installment of Gospel-Driven Church, or at least the most unrelated to the purpose of GDC -- Five For Friday -- is back! Don't act like you're not happy.

This installment lists the five rockin'est songs that happen to be fronted by singers of the female-type persuasion (and no, Freddie Mercury doesn't count).

Your mileage may vary, but here are mine, off the top of my head:

1. "Barracuda" by Heart
Rock this in your car and you'll wind up with a speeding ticket.

2. tie: "Bad Reputation" and "I Love Rock and Roll," both by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
Accept no substitutes.

3. "Fall Behind Me" by The Donnas
These chicks would be hot if it weren't for my vague suspicion they'd stab me with a broken beer bottle and take my wallet. (Or maybe you think that's hot too.)

4. "Piece of My Heart" by Janis Joplin
It's Janis. 'Nuff said.

5. "Supernova" by Liz Phair
This spot could actually be filled by any number of female alterna-rockers, but I'm kinda sweet on this song.

What, you were expecting Kelly Clarkson's "Since You've Been Gone"?
Although, that is a pretty rockin' song . . .

In no particular order:

-- "Bring Me To Life" Evanescence
-- "Your Little Secret" Melissa Etheridge (yeah, I KNOW. But it IS a kick-butt song despite what it's about and who it's sung by)
-- "Gone Gone Gone" Alison Krauss (w/ Robert Plant)
-- "Are You Experienced" Belly (off a Jimi Hendrix tribute album)
-- "Closer To You" Brandi Carlile

There's a few that aren't strictly ROCK songs but they are pretty rockin' to me.

tough category - only 3 come to mind - 'hate myself for loving you" is the most rockin' Joan Jet song for me......."A change'll do you good' by Sheryl Crow is a great song.........and "Never Alone" by SuperChick (if that counts) has a great Evervescence type sound to it......I know I'll think of more..........SuperChick is a great band by the way - they right wonderfully encouraging lyrics to teen-age girls - (I have 2)............
