The Arrogance and the Irony of the Safe Jesus

“I confess to the church, I know I have backed away from certain things because of my arrogance I thought I could attract more people to Jesus by hiding certain things about him.”

Francis Chan
And the irony is that when you hide certain things about Jesus to attract people to him, it's not Jesus you're attracting them to.

Only the gospel can free someone up to be that publicly honest. Love the Chan. Dunno about everyone else but personally there isn't much that softens my stony heart like public confession/repentance/vulnerability from someone I respect.

Phil, amen.

Also: I know this isn't clear from the post, but I just want to mention that I am not criticizing Chan. Just piggybacking off his (good) word with a complementary one.
