Gospel-Centered For the Cause of Gospel Wakefulness
Unfortunately, when I look at the Church I see both the old, tired woman and the beautiful, young woman. On one hand I see so many stagnant, unfruitful pew-sitters. Most days, I'm one of them.On the other hand I see how jealous God is over His bride in both the Old and New Testaments and what amazing plans He has for us.I wish I could love the Church like Christ does.
Dave, I would say that's a "fortunate" view. It's realistic about our sinfulness and our need for sanctification but also belief-filled that in the gospel Christ presents his bride spotless and beautiful.
Honestly, I still see this. It's almost as if the reaction and disdain towards the church is part of the culture here.
I think that is a great illustration to describe the church. It depends much on what the person wants to see as to how he will interpret the church. We certainly should not overlook ugliness and sin in the church, but our attitude will help shape our view of the bride of Christ.
