Love? That puzzles me. God doesn't seem to like Japan very much, does he?

If love is defined in a man-centered, one-dimensional way, perhaps not.

Or sometimes pain is a loving means of getting one's attention. "Pain is God's megaphone to a deaf world" (Lewis).

I wonder what my nephew, who lives in Japan, and who right now can't give radioactive tap water to his babies, would think of that. I worry about an omniscient and omnipotent god who knows these things will happen but does nothing to stop them. I'm afraid your response does nothing to comfort me.

I don't know what your nephew would think of this, but I know that many have found the love of Christ a deep comfort in times of deep affliction.

I would worry about a God who allows suffering capriciously and callously, but that is not the God the Bible reveals.
