Christ the Lord will break in and bind the strongman before he sets up shop. Idols must be razed, strongholds destroyed, hardness tilled up.
So the work of gospel proclamation seeks to break hearts as and before it seeks to secure them to Jesus.

I can testify to this. A year without a job. He hasn't dropped me once, but He has crushed me. He has changed what I desire most. He has destroyed in me what hates Him.
Between the very hard, but very real truth and the fact that you quote both C.S. Lewis and Wilco, this may very well be my favorite post ever.
It's very timely, too, since this is what I've been coming to terms with these days. He has broken me. But He will bind up my wounds.
I've never grown as much in God as the times He almost destroyed me. You have to tear down the old, bad foundations to let Him build anew.
