The Gospel is the Story of a Dragon-Fight

I love this.
"We fell into sin as a race because we were beguiled by a dragon (Gen. 3:1). God promised to send a warrior who would crush the seed of that serpent (Gen. 3:15), and He has done this in Jesus Christ. In sum, the gospel is the story of a dragon-fight. The serpent of Genesis is the dragon of Revelation (Rev. 20:2), and we are called to rejoice that the dragon has been slain. In contrast, we have reduced the gospel to four basic steps toward personal happiness, and we are much farther from the truth than our fathers were when they told their glorious stories. This is another way of saying that dragon-lore is truer than therapy-speak."

Amen! And when you trace that through Genesis it's eye-opening.... Cain could crush the serpents head and prove himself not to be a dragon, but he strikes his brother.... and then there are Lamech-Cain, giants of Genesis 6, Nimrod of Babel, the Pharaoh of Genesis 12, the suspected-dragon Abimelech who turns out not to be one...

And we get to wear really cool armor too!

Jesus gets very cool armour, and we get to be in him... which is cool enough!

Hi Dave,

Was thinking about Ephesians 6:13-17, when speaking extemporaneously earlier, but we certainly cannot forget who supplies it.

My eldest son and I hunt dragons in the backyard. Wilson had something to do with that . . .

John8com,

Agreed - in think in Ephesians it really is about emphasising our union with Christ. The church is his body (chapter 1), so no surprise that we put on what he puts on - so that we really are his body, with him as the head.
